I predicted on at least two past posts that the US version of Sway's 'Still Speedin' would feature Lupe Fiasco. I'm really pleased that this has happened because the pair make a good tag team, as they have done before and this version couldn't have worked out any better in my opinion.
The Lupe feature adds more than just a standard guest verse, bringing out more from the track, adding to the original.
'Get Busy' kicks off with an old school styled riff and vocal, that builds up the euphoria, before brutally dropping you into a sea of filthy baselines.
This is literally like a movie. I watched this full screen and had my mouth open for the majority of the whole 7:45 minutes. The look and detail in all of the graphics are quite astonishingly beautiful.
Such an amazing visual experience.
Not too bad for your first promo. Late contender for video of the year?
On a another note, vimeo is miles ahead of YouTube.
'Redinho will round off our hectic year with the release of ‘Stay Together’, an epic one track taster of what is to come from his debut album on Numbers sometime in 2012.
“Stay Together was made in a similar way that I make a lot of my music these days - me sitting at a piano. Once complete I take it into the studio and try and update it all. The piano will be replaced by a Juno, and the vocal melodies will be played on a Talkbox.” - Redinho'
Another great release from Numbers, who have been one of my favourite labels of the past year.
This was a bit of a grower on me, took a few listens for this to sink into my mind. I love the progression in the track, with different sounds coming in and out of the mix, making it a deep listening experience. Along with that you have the talkbox vocal on top, that adds warmth to the track.
I've been waiting for this one to come out since I heard Toddla playing it at Cable.
Massive Toddla T remix for the 2 Bears and it features my two favourite MC's on the planet right now. The magnificent Trim and the incredible Scrufizzer.
Literally can not wait to get my hands on this one!
'After releasing two highly sought-after EP’s this year in the shape of Motherboard and Lighter, one of UK funky’s most prolific producers wastes no time and strikes again with Sensitivity - something a little less aggressive than usual that still maintains the danceable groove that Champion is renown for.
Off the back of her summer collaboration, Full Attention with Terror Danjah, Ruby Lee Ryder lends her vocals to this silky Champion production. With her delicate vocal harmonies she sings in a lullaby like fashion which compliments the subtle synth stabs and refined chopped up bassline.'
This YouTube rip really doesn't do any justice to this song at all (although they never do). Get onto iTunes at the very least and listen to the preview, just so that you can listen to the baselines.
With a Aaliyah-like heavenly vocal, this is an irresistibly sweet tune.
Once again, Wiley changes tactics and goes in the complete opposite direction from his last album. Although, this is what it sounds like from the this snippit of 'Boom Blast'.
Basline lead with a boom bap electronic drum pattern, Wiley vibes all over this. Whatever you may make of this, you have to admit, Wiley can ride any beat put in front of him.
Also, I'm extremely pleased that the new album will be released on Big Dada. I've previously said on this blog that I'm a big fan of the label and think that it's been the best home for his music.
'Boom Blast' is out 16th January and will include rexmies from Sticky & Herner Werzog.
Taken from the forthcoming album 'Evolve Or Be Extinct', which is released January 19th on Big Dada.
I'm a big fan of his 'Crack House' EPs, which are pretty essential, so it wasn't a huge surprise. The rhythms and deep baselines are all the way through this, making each track massive dance-floor destroyers.
Title track 'Sprung' is dangerous.
The Sprung EP will be a digital-only release on Rinse, released December 5th.
Below is the radio rip of title track 'Sprung' taken from Rinse.fm...
Below is the 4Play documentary on TEED that went out on Channel 4 not too long ago. Gives a great insight into what they are about, well worth your time...
“Rival is at the forefront of the next generation of Grime MCs taking the music back to its roots ” – Logan Sama.
After the trippy, murky sounds of the introduction, the 'Lord Rivz' EP kicks into full gear with 'They Said'. Rival's verses effortlessly glide along a baseline lead 8-bar riddim and with the hook he becomes increasingly meaner, furiously tearing up the hook. This is the type of grime that could get anyone hyped, all the elements are there.
'Plan A' brings in Logan Sama to narrate a story set around a honey trap and this sees Rival trading bars with the talented Lioness, over a production full of jittery sounds that could have been lifted from a Nintendo. Rival and Lioness really add pace to the track, keeping you engaged throughout, something that some MCs struggle to provide.
Rival then goes a little deeper than just straight 8 bar grime, with track such as 'Heartache' and 'Just a Dream'. Both use heavy sample usage for the overall production, but Rival makes them his own. Especially on 'Just a Dream', which did make me raise an eyebrow, but as soon as the beat kicked in Rival takes over.
His flow and delivery is fierce throughout and Rival switches up his styles relentlessly. '3 Steps' is a perfect example of this, where Rival really attacks both the verse and the chorus. The tone of his voice reminds me slightly of Giggs, although maybe not as gully, but with a bit more clarity. In everything he spits on this EP, you genuinely get a sense that he knows and has done what he's talking about.
Rival is at his best with the Ghetts guested 'Save Me'. Over a reverberating vocal and guitar laden backdrop both MC's share honest lines with the listener.
Overall, the EP is a good body of work that goes a long way to showcase the range of Rival. Quite a few highlights from the EP are when the pace is slowed down. At it's grimiest, the production will have you nodding your head, while the lyricism and flow of Rival will have you screwing your face.
Recommended Listening: They Said, Plan A, Just a Dream and Save Me.
Rival's 'Lord Rivz' EP will be out digitally (iTunes, Amazon) on 21st November 2011. Physical copies will be available from majormusicentertaiment.com.
One of the most exciting producers around at the moment, remixes the latest single from Joker's fantastic debut album 'The Vision'.
Rustie takes elements from a few music genre's and brings the funk out of them. I really like the way that he uses certain sounds that you wouldn't normally hear. The are kinda of retro sounding, but the way that he puts them together in each of his tracks makes them fresh.
Great production skills, so much going on with every track that he makes.
'“Killing Me” sees a return to a classic UK garage vibe sampling RnB vocalist Brandy, with Dark0′s unmistakable production and Context MC’s unique flow and delivery.'
via wearesme.co.uk.
This is big.
Garage flavours, merged with the darkness of dub and the clarity of Context MC. The vocal sounds as if it was recorded only for this tune.
This is a pretty wicked vid. Cuba looks quite exceptional. Yasmin looks alright also.
The track has really grown on me from the first time that I heard it a few months ago. Shy FX does a great job on the production, I would love to hear this on a giant sound system.
MJ Cole blesses us with another remix with 'Light Up The World', adding orchestral stabs along with 808s, before switching it up for Ms Dynamite. The climax to this really is something, with all the parts coming together quite nicely.
'UK born and raised producer Sinden (Graeme Sinden) is no stranger to Mad Decent. He threw the first ever Mad Decent Party in London at Fabric in 2006, we host his weekly KISS FM (UK) radio show on our site (on which countless MD artists have guested), and he even played at our Los Angeles Block Party this year. So it was only a matter of time before we put out a release with him.'
Radio Rip of Ignition featuring Nadia Suliman and Footsie, taken from DJ Q on 1Xtra.
Need to hear a proper 320 of this, but from the radio rip I can hear that it's another great track from one of the best producers about in the scene at the moment.
The lead vocal on this is overly addictive.
*Updated post with the audio from Swindle's soundcloud.
'Sitting comfortable on a mixtape, 6 EPs, collaborations and freestyles just isn’t enough for East London based MC Rival, as he now presents you with the highly anticipated ‘Lord Rivz EP’.'
This gets me hyped. Grimey to the fullest.
Proper 8 bar riddim grime, with a drum pattern that sounds like it was lifted striaght from Dylan's 'Stand Up Tall'. Love that.
Look out for the EP to drop soon with features from Dot Rotten, Lioness and Ghetts.
Rival's ‘Lord Rivz EP’ will be released digitally 21st November, with physical copies available over at majormusicentertaiment.com.
Really feeling the groove on this one. Sounds kind of trippy and spaced out, but funky as hell when the drop hits. The way that they have chopped and edited the vocal into the mix is also a pleasure.
Big fan of Redlight, great producer and a master of making absolute club bangers.
This is another tune floating around at the moment that has a real old school feeling towards it. Looking forward to hearing a decent quality version of this one.
Released 31st January on Chase & Status' MTA Records.
In anticipation of the single you can grab a free mixtape from Redlight.
Interviewed Launchpad Records (who Tre is signed to) director Louis Serrano a few weeks ago and we spoke on Tre. From everything that I've heard, mostly from youtube, the guy is a talent. I'm looking forward to future releases.
Nothing can sound bad when laden with 90's styled dance piano riffs right?
Instantly enjoyed this one from Digital Soundboy's original soundgirl B.Traits. Without a doubt this is some massive dance floor material, loving every part of this.
For those not too familiar with B.Traits below is her 'Breaking Bad Remix' of Shy FX's 'Raver', which is my favourite out of all the many that came out...
