Arctic - Shook EP

Australian grime? Yeeeah.

Delivered to you from grime centric Coyote Records and coming from the other side of the world, Arctic drops some prime eski-beat channelling grime that stands up with the best of them. 'Shook' carries that trademark skippy grime sound, while 'Know This Don' digs in deeper with strong baselines.

The release also features a remix of Shook from the talented Kid Smpl, which from a little preview I've heard sounds a bit special.

A tough release.

If the clips aren't enough you can stream the full EP from FACT Mag here.

Released in June on vinyl and digital formats.

Jamie Hustle - Pleasure Dome EP

"Formula Records introduces another newcomer to the stable for the second release in a row after Notion turned heads with his blistering Digits EP last summer.

This time around label boss Champion turns his attentions to the mysterious Jamie Hustle - whose take on bass-led House fiercely remains true to the dancefloor-orientated ethos that Formula Records has operating by since its inception in 2011."

Some extremely catchy bass driven house from newcomer Jamie Hustle coming on Champion's Formula Records.

'Pleasure Dome' takes on a 4/4 beat, laced with heavy baselines that purr along the track along with some addictive synth pitch bends. B-side 'One Objective' gets straight down onto the dance-floor with ravey synth-line stabs delivered onto a knocking beat that begs to be played on a loud system.

Heavy stuff.

Released June 10th on Digital and Vinyl formats.

SoundCloud Selections: April '13

Got introduced to the sounds of KASSI this week and there are a few gems on his soundcloud. This is probably my favourite out of the bunch, a real sweet track with a track top-line melody.

Great freebie from the ever brilliant Karma Kid. This one has summer written all over it.

Tanka celebrated his birthday by sharing this little booty of a remix to an absolute classic.

Another freebie from Sion and another fine production. I was intrigued to hear how Nate Dogg vocal would work and it really embeds in well with the smooth baseline. Groover.

Djrum - Arcana (Do I Need You)

"2nd Drop Records release ‘Seven Lies’, the debut album by Felix Manuel aka Djrum (pronounced “Drum”). Its sounds are inspired by the rawness of urban London, influences of Portishead, DJ Shadow and The Cinematic Orchestra, jungle, minimal techno, classic house, broken beat – all seamlessly segued with a nod to jazz vinyl and film music.

Fans will recognise Djrum’s iconic tropes on ‘Seven Lies’: widescreen atmospheres, dub chords, dusty and melancholic strings, obscure film samples. But this time its spread over a bigger, more luxurious canvas that dips like an undulating terrain of sound; techno troughs, bumpy hip hop breaks, euphoric drum and bass, all filtered through the Djrum node."

Didn't take long for me to get lost into this track from Djrum.

Drawing in from a multitude of genres 'Arcana (Do I Need You)' fuses an array of sounds, instruments and lifts a beautifully delicate vocal sample as it seems to roll along forever to a continuous beat.

It's one of those tracks that draw you in.

Taken from the soon to be released 'Seven Lies' album which is filled with a collection of wonderfully crafted productions. I've not even heard the whole album in it's entirety (currently rectifying) and I'm already musing over how good it is.

Irresistible stuff.

Djrum's 'Seven Lies' is released April 22nd by 2nd Drop Records on vinyl and digital formats.
